We have no children of our own but for a few years Mylène has been with us and become like a daughter. She loves our animals as we do and we`re are very happy about it, hoping she`ll stay with us for a while.
The story of how we became Akita-lovers: We were living in rented accommodation, in the middle of town. However at that time we already had horses, and often spent time in the country. One day we bought a dog magazine, and there, on the front cover, was a picture of an Akita. From that moment on Andi knew that if we were to ever own a house, we would also own an Akita. At that time very little information was available about the breed, but we were infected with the "bug".
In 1996 our dreams of a house of our own came closer to becoming reality, and with it our plans to own an Akita became more serious. After a long search we eventually found a dog, Akambo. To keep the little Akita company at home, we also fetched a German shepherd bitch from the dog pound.

And one became many……
In actual fact, we were happy owning just 2 dogs, and we had no ambition to breed Akitas. Nevertheless, the breeder from whom we bought Akambo suggested we take him to dog shows. We thought about it for a long time, and eventually decided to enter Akambo for an international show which was taking place close to home. To our delight he won not only the open class but also the reserve CACIB. After this success we began to regularly enter Akambo for competitions, and now Akambo is a German and international champion. Because of Akambo's exemplary character we decided to try and breed Akambo-babies. So we looked for a Brindle bitch, and found one in Italy. Her name is Migo. However, after 15 months, this grand scheme began to look shaky, as X-rays of Migo's hips did not look good. This was quite a setback, and it took us several long months to get over the disappointment. Migo is fine, and I'm sure that she will grow old without pain, given my experience of animals with hip dysplasia. She still jumps like a kangaroo on her hind legs when it's feeding time. Then we found another bitch, Sakura (brindle). With four dogs already, one or two more didn't make much difference, so now we also have Suzaku (red) and Kati (red).
Once you've been bitten by the Akita virus, it's hard to shake it off! There's an old saying which I can only concur with:
"once an Akita, always an Akita, or never again"!
For us, it's definitely for life!!
